Shop in the district countryside
This website brings together some of the best small local retailers in the district in one place. Launched in 2020, Shop in the District offers a list of retail stores, with an option to filter by neighborhood and other categories.
Mayor Muriel Bowser, the Deputy Mayor’s Office of Economic Planning and Development, and the Washington DC Economic Partnership created the campaign to make sure you can support your favorite local shops from the comfort of your home.
Launched in 2020, the DC Shop Small website maintains a searchable list of small businesses across the borough by category.
Several stores are offering discounts this year.
Georgetown Small Business Saturday
Georgetown will also get into action on Saturday offering over 20 specials from shops, restaurants, galleries, services and more.
Over 300 small businesses call Georgetown home, comprising 60% of the Business District’s restaurants and retailers.
“They are the heart of this community and they need your support more than ever this year.”
Downtown DC Christmas Market
The 18th Annual Downtown Holiday Market, also known as DC’s Outdoor Shopping Village, kicked off for the holiday season on Friday, November 18.
This year’s retail lineup includes more than 70 exhibitors, including Black and minority-owned businesses from DC’s Department of Small Business Development and local venues.
Operated by the DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) and Diverse Markets Management, this year’s market will again take up two full blocks of F Street NW, from 7th to 9th Streets NW. With its grand main entrance located on the pavement opposite the National Portrait Gallery.
The village, open every day from 12:00 to 20:00, will take place until Friday 13 December 2022.
In addition to shopping, there will be live entertainment from regional artists.
Eastern Market Main Street
The Holly Days returns for a sixth year to support businesses in the heart of Capitol Hill. Enjoy holiday shopping, restaurants, lighting and window displays, music and more along Eastern Market Main Street. You can find unique gifts from all over the world sold by local small businesses.
The covered market is open 8am to 6pm Tuesday to Saturday and 8am to 5pm Sunday (closed Mondays).
Tenley WinterFest takes place from November 26th to December 3rd. It features a yeti scavenger hunt, winter party options, and festive window displays.
From 12pm to 3pm on Saturday, November 26, pick up a free reusable bag with coupons and giveaways to inspire you to shop small.
Shop small all weekend long! The Friday before Small Business Saturday is Frosty Friday in downtown Frederick. It offers all-day shopping, free parking, live music, and snowflake tree gifts.
On Saturdays from 10am to 9pm, visitors can shop at more than 200 locally owned and operated businesses.
Robin Hill Farm and Vineyards
Saturday 12-5pm, join the vineyard for a Small Business Saturday event featuring over 50 local vendors.
In addition, there will be live music by John Luskey and The No Sauce Que’ and Pizza Hotline food trucks on site.
Shop small weekend in Alexandria
Alexandria’s holiday shopping season kicks off with Plaid Friday – Black Friday for small businesses in Alexandria on November 25, 2022. Check out at least 50 independent stores offering unique deals.
Then, celebrate Small Business Saturday on November 26, 2022, with special offers and discounts from nearly 65 independently owned boutiques in Old Town and beyond.
Find a $5 parking garage in Old Town on Saturdays and Sundays, and after 5pm on weekdays, at the Courthouse Square Garage, 111 S. Pitt Street, and the Market Square Garage, 108 N. Fairfax Street.

At the Welcome Station, visitors can pick up a treasure hunt card to help locate elves throughout the city. Plus, there will be small treats, coffee and cocoa to go, free Small Business Saturday bags and more while supplies last until 12pm
Falls Church Farmers Market
The popular market in downtown Falls Church on Saturday will feature special vendors. Shop from 8am to midnight in support of local businesses.
