The Georgian, Santa Monica Appoints Rob Ciancimino as Chief Executive Officer and Melissa Volpert as Director of Sales and Marketing

Rob Ciancimino and Melissa Volpert have been named Chief Executive Officer and Director of Sales and Marketing, respectively, at The Georgian; the soon to reopen historic hotel located on Ocean Avenue.

Opened in January 2023, The Georgian has been a fixture of the Southern California coast since it opened in 1933 under the leadership of renowned hotelier Rosamond Borde. Seeing several iterations over the years, regular guests at the historic hotel and restaurant, the Red Griffin (and later The Georgian Room), ranged from Hollywood stars Charlie Chaplin, Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe to First Mother Rose Kennedy.

Hospitality entrepreneur and classic motorcycle aficionado, Rob Ciancimino arrives at The Georgian, recently serving as Managing Partner of Verse Restaurant and Intro Art Gallery & Chef’s Table. Rob is a true hospitality veteran with over 25 years of experience in the restaurant and hospitality industry including time spent at the world renowned live music venue The Sayers Club and time overseeing bars and restaurants at The W. Rob has a deep passion for leadership and team building, and his unique hands-on approach to the overall hospitality experience will be crucial in building the high-touch, luxury service model guests will experience at The Georgian.

Melissa Volpert brings over 30 years of experience in hospitality sales and marketing, with a focus on entertainment, fashion and the arts. In 1997 she was the first employee of the Standard brand and, together with Andre Balazs, she played a key role in creating the iconic hotel company that revolutionized the industry. In her role as director of sales and marketing at Standard, Hollywood, she managed all sales and marketing initiatives with a focus on building and maintaining guest relationships, strategic planning, cultural programming, partnerships and to market positioning.

A full-service hotel and real estate development company, BLVD along with ESI Ventures acquired the famed hotel in August 2020 with the intent of restoring one of Los Angeles’ most recognizable and photogenic hotels to its former glory. The next chapter of The Georgian will see a facelift of the 84 rooms and 28 suites, along with new and revamped offerings including the famed oceanfront Sunset Terrace, Dining Room and Sunset Bar. Plus the Library and Gym , The Georgian will also host two private meeting and dining spaces, The Gallery and The Writer’s Room. The Gallery will present an ever-evolving curatorship of works by international artists on a quarterly basis.
